Meet Brandy Bedo! Brandy fulfills a dual role as an Employment Specialist and Case Coordinator here at Benedictine. That means that she helps individuals develop meaningful goals each year, and then she provides support to people on her caseload so that they may reach those goals.

Brandy was one of the key staff members responsible for facilitating the shift from in-person learning and vocational training to a virtual environment when the Covid-19 pandemic first hit last spring. Her biggest challenge was learning how to reconfigure real-world, work-related goals for an online format; after all, “When people can’t work in the community, how can we make progress on community-based goals?” Brandy says it took a lot of innovative thinking and heavy reliance on Zoom as a communication tool, but before long, “we started to see that people were not only continuing to make progress remotely, many were thriving.” Online tools such as an interactive game that teaches grocery-bagging skills provided some meaningful facetime on Zoom and helped to build real-world proficiency that can be taken back into the community when Covid-19 restrictions finally ease.

Did you know that Benedictine was one of the only non-public schools in Maryland that opened for full in-person education in fall 2020? We’d like to send a huge THANK YOU! to the Caroline County Department of Health for being such a great support and resource throughout the COVID-19 crisis. We’ve come a long way, and we're now to the point of vaccinating our employees, students, and the adults we support. We also have rapid testing available on site.
