Uncommon Victory

Into Confident Adulthood

Into confident adulthood.

"I think there comes a time when you have to do what's right for your child and find a place where they are comfortable and can really unfold and be the person they're capable of being. The teachers and staff at Benedictine have been able to find out what she can do and what she can't do, and to find a place for her that she feels good about. Benedictine is VERY good for her."

Transforming! Programs for Young Adults

Transition is difficult for most, but especially so for those with developmental disabilities. Moving from a sheltered educational environment to one that requires a greater level of independence and responsibility — the world of employment and community living — is intimidating.

Benedictine's program for young adults with developmental disabilities aged seventeen and older facilitates this transition. Offering extensive employment and community living skills instruction, its goal is to prepare each individual to attain gainful employment and to become a contributing member of his or her family and community.

Young adults in this program are offered remedial instruction in reading, language and math, leisure activities, personal hygiene, orientation to work, social and cultural enrichment — whatever it takes to help the individual maximize present and potential strengths and become as independent as possible.
