The nursing department is responsible for the overall health and safety of the adults served in the Maryland Open Community Program. Nurses provide day to day medical care and triage for all adults, scheduling and transportation/accompaniment to medical appointments, delegation of medication administration and supervision of direct care staff, and staff training in nursing delegation functions. To ensure the health and safety of the adults in the Maryland Open Community Program, DDA regulations and Board of Nursing guidelines are adhered to in regard to medical care.
In the Delaware Open Community Program nursing services are offered through the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services. Each adult is assigned a DDDS nurse who performs monthly medical checks, assists with medical appointments and follow-up and delegates the medication administration to direct care staff.
